Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you
no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration
of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify
your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
PROCLAMATION AND RESPONSE
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that, as
the Scriptures are read, and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy
what you say to us today. Amen.

RESPONSE TO THE WORD: #85 We Believe In One True God
CONFESSION/JOYS/CONCERNS
God of grace: we offer you, our lives. We confess we are often stingy
in our gifts of time, of talents, of treasures. We confess our addiction
to the drugs of consumerism and that, as your church, we have often
fallen headlong into the culture’s seduction. Forgive us and free us to
joyful simplicity, that we may be signs of grace to your world. Amen.

God of mercy and healing, you who hear the cries of those in need, receive
these petitions of your people that all who are troubled may know peace,
comfort, and courage.
