Wang’s familiar motif of commercial product packaging is reimagined, taking on a less prominent role and blending into a more abstract, all-over painting style where every element is equally engaging.
In ‘Small Talk,’ Wang captures the essence of information overload through layered, vibrant depictions and intersecting patterns, symbolising the constant barrage of imagery in our lives. The artworks feature a balance of dynamic colours and neutral chequerboard grids, illustrating the complexity of modern visual experiences.
Moving away from the nostalgia typically associated with her packaging images, Wang uses these elements as mere patterns in this series, creating a ‘curated surface’ that challenges viewers to discern reality amidst the abstract. This evolution is further explored in her monochrome paintings, which strip away all figurative elements, leaving surreal, almost cubist compositions.
