Discover Dutch artist Bobbi Esser's debut UK solo exhibition, 'The World at Our Command', at Unit.
The artist uses intimate photographs taken of her close-knit group of friends to inform large-scale, sometimes modular, compositions of her friendship group as a whole. Limbs, clothes and accessories all overlap, as each individual's face is either removed or concealed – the artist's focus is not to depict her friends in each work, but rather friendship itself. The effect becomes a collage of memory, as each artwork splices together various scenes into an overall sensation of connection and togetherness.
