One of our most anticipated house reveals, it is also being built in real life and the construction process of it is very exciting for both retahouse and the client.
This luxury, sustainable and functional house was designed for a family who lives in Mersin, their initial request was to have a light hierarchy between common spaces versus private spaces. This was a fun challenge for retahouse because in the past we have dealt with similar expectations and programs from our other clients who commissioned family-focused residentials.
However given the recent challenges in architecture such as energy efficiency, environment-friendly - functional design and sustainable solutions we had to come up with modern housing solutions that are up to date and not ignorant to green energy discussions.
The house uses the most up-to-date resolutions for solar, wind and water re-usage as energy sources. The landscape design was specifically organized from a group of plants that need little maintenance and less usage of water. In the scenario the landscape designed for the house should be self-sustaining.
The scale of the house seems luxurious at first but in detail, it is actually very a functional House. There are three modular blocks that represent the private programs that are combined with a foundation that acts as the common space. For each program massing unit there is a different grading level that is dealing with two separate programs. Lower-level grading is for entrance and serves mainly for the foundation unit that includes common programs that are more public-oriented. The upper-level grading on the other hand is more hidden from sight and serves as a private area for more personal usage of the indoor and outdoor living together.
The relationship of the outside is very important when you are developing a project in Mersin. Its seaside setting and tropical mood has to prepare a well-organized ground for a summer house but on the other side it has to deal with considerable cold scenarios and weather conditions. Therefore the materials used and the overall planning of the concept was designed as a multi-purpose usage scenario.
Last but not least, we had to consider the context of the house and the hillside location of it. We acted as if the hillside was a part of the landscape and tried to utilize non-traditional methods to connect the landscape solutions of the house with the hill. As if the hillside is a part of your backyard.
