Founded after producing the terracotta with Frank Lloyd Wright for the famous Imperial Hotel, Tokyo in 1924, INAX is recognised for its innovative range of interior and exterior architectural ceramics that embody superb manufacturing and leading designs by traditional artisans. Yugen Border is a beautiful tile range that was developed by INAX in Japan. The name “Yugen” is a poetic blend of "Yu," representing glaze, and "Gen," meaning illusion.
The Yugen Border glaze is inspired by the exquisite allure of a mirage illusion. The range skillfully captures the distinctive texture of pottery crafted through wet moulding, alongside sophisticated Japanese glaze expression.
To achieve the unique glaze of Yugen Border, precise moisture control of the base clay is essential. It demands the formulation of a special high-viscosity glaze that adheres firmly to the tile surface and the creation of a custom "karasu guchi" glazing sprayer crafted by a specialised blacksmith.
The quality of the production of INAX Japanese ceramics is incredibly high. Their manufacturing processes enable a level of precision and consistency, while also delivering the beautiful natural qualities for which Japanese ceramics are renowned. This is a result of the INAX factories’ experience working with the variables of temperature and timing that affect the chemical reactions that ultimately determine the result.
