Jordan Fleming named Winner of Product Design at The (Emerging) Designer Awards 2024
Presented by Artedomus and The Local Project, The (Emerging) Designer Awards aim to promote designers at the early stages of their design journey. In 2024 the awards expanded its program to introduce an all-new Product Design category, presented in partnership with New Volumes. The Product Design category gives one lucky winner the exciting and very unique opportunity to join the New Volumes family, and be recognised alongside its stable of renowned Australian designers. Over the next 12 months the Product Design winner will work closely with the New Volumes team to bring their ideas to life and create a new product that will contribute to New Volumes' growing collection.
On 23 October 2024, The (Emerging) Designer Awards held its Awards Ceremony at the Menzies Bar at Shell House in Sydney. The exclusive industry event welcomed more than 100 of Australia’s most esteemed architects, designers and industry stakeholders, alongside an exciting cohort of emerging practitioners.
Melbourne based designer, Jordan Fleming, was announced the Winner of the Product Design category. The jury awarded Jordan for her unique approach to materials and form, and her distinct design aesthetic – already clearly established within her emerging product design practice.
Jordan describes herself as both an artist and designer, creating idiosyncratic, experimental, and sculptural furniture and lighting objects. With a background in cabinet making and interior design, she established her own furniture design practice in 2018.
Her practice is deeply rooted in transcending the utilitarian aspects of furniture, aiming to elevate each piece beyond its programmatic function. Her work is distinguished by a whimsical and lively aesthetic, characterised by the use of tactile materials like plaster, pigment, timber, and metal. These materials enable her to imbue objects with emotion and encourage personal connections with the viewer.
