Grandmaster Yoda, one of the most revered Jedi, made a critical mistake that would have profound consequences. He sensed a disturbance in the Force when Anakin Skywalker massacred a Tusken Raider camp on Tatooine. Yet, Yoda allowed Anakin’s descent into darkness to continue by choosing not to intervene. The warning signs were clear. Yoda had already witnessed his former Padawan, Count Dooku, fall to the dark side. He should have recognized the similar path Anakin was walking. And shortly after this, Yoda permitted Anakin to be knighted as a Jedi. By confronting Anakin at this juncture, Yoda might have been able to steer him away from his haunting visions of Padme’s death, possibly preventing his turn to the dark side. Yoda’s gross underestimation of the strength of the dark side and his belief in Anakin as the Chosen One who would destroy the Sith paved the way for the rise of Darth Vader and the catastrophic fall of the Jedi Order.
