This is where Cirque du Soleil comes in. In the early 1980’s, Gilles Ste-Croix and Guy Laliberté created a circus show which they performed in the city streets of Quebec, Canada with great fanfare. In 1984, it just happened that Quebec was celebrating the 450th anniversary of the discovery of Canada.
With luck, Gilles and Guy saw this as an opportunity and proposed a show called 'Cirque du Soleil'. Soon after the show in Quebec, the troupe performed in 10 other cities in Canada with wide acclaim. By 1986, they were no longer a small circus production and in fact they were eyeing for a major global breakthrough across borders.
