"My name is Johanna Phelps, I’m 40 years old, I’m a native of Onslow County, I was born and raised here, and I am a cancer survivor.
I found a lump and it was the size of a top of pencil, and I went and saw my regular doctor, and from there she sent me for a mammogram. And a few months later I ended up getting a lumpectomy.
I had a dear friend who had breast cancer maybe 3 years before me and she stayed here for all of her treatment and she had a wonderful experience. I followed suit with that.
And from the moment, the moment that I was told I had cancer, I felt like everybody—all the doctors, everybody along the way stopped everything and made me feel important.
I stayed here for all of my treatment and I was very thrilled with that decision. I had a wonderful experience and I often say that my treatment team were really my support team. And that’s a very true statement. Most of it felt like family to me. You see these people every single day and they see you at many stages of where you are, at your worst really. And when you’re down, and when you’re out. And there are days where you just don’t want to do it, and the staff is the reason you hang in there.
I always felt like I was in great hands. I knew that my outcome would be positive because how could it not be when I had such wonderful people surrounding me and taking such good care of me.
I am living proof that you can get great care right here."
