Smart Solutions Revolutionising Urban Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
PolyU stands at the forefront of sustainability research. Our scholars have found smart approaches to boost urban energy efficiency to save the environment without sacrificing human comfort. One approach involves examining and optimising a building’s energy systems from design to construction to operation. It was implemented at the International Commerce Centre and other buildings including factories, hotels, and commercial and office complexes, saving them 15% to 42% of annual energy. Another solution is a systematic design methodology for estate development and community planning purposes. It creates Localised Outdoor Comfort Hubs in a newly built or renewed community to allow residents to enjoy more outdoor time.
