This video is on “ Cooling Towers Part 1: Understand the purpose, Working Principle & Key Performance Parameters“. The target audience for this course is fresh chemical and process engineers and chemical engineering students.

Cooling tower is important equipment in several process and non-process industries. Several plants across chemical process industries use water as utility or cooling medium to cool the process fluids by exchanging sensible heat. Examples of this include reactor effluent coolers, and compressor inter/ after coolers etc. In distillation columns, heat is added in the reboiler and rejected in the condenser. Many of the condensers are designed to use cooling water as the heat rejection medium. There are several other examples such as this in process industry. The temperature of the water rises due to the heat transferred from the process fluid or the hot fluid in the heat exchangers. It is this heat that the cooling water rejects to the air in the cooling tower. This video focuses on the purpose of cooling tower, its working principles, cooling tower related technical parameters and their importance in cooling tower performance.
