When Israel embraced the life and culture of the surrounding nations, the impact was subtle and undetectable by the casual observer. They still had a beautiful temple and a unique cultural heritage, but something was lost. The prophets always seemed to have a word of encouragement, but the less popular prophets were not so positive. Jesus said that we ought to beware when the dominant message is peace and safety because it precedes sudden destruction. We must be aware that we don’t get caught up in the euphoria of the season and miss the fact that the King of Glory has left the building.
