During the Years of Lead, Toni Negri was one of the leading theorists of worker-Marxism. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison for subversive association and moral complicity in the Argelato robbery, which killed a Carabiniere.

He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1983 with the support of the Radical Party and Marco Pannella, while still in prison awaiting trial. The election granted him parliamentary immunity and thus his release, but shortly thereafter, Negri fled to France. He returned to Italy and completed his sentence in 2003.

The interview is an excerpt from the 1990 television program "La notte della Repubblica" by Sergio Zavoli.
