When someone asks you how you feel, what do you actually say?
If you're like most people, you don't describe a feeling at all. You describe a thought. "Well, I think what happened was..." or "I think that person is..." — and you never actually answer the question.
That's not feeling. That's commentary. And the difference between the two is everything.
Most of us have learned to think our emotions rather than feel them. We analyze, we narrate, we judge, we build stories — but we rarely drop into the body and actually experience what's happening there. And there's a reason for that. Feeling is vulnerable. Thinking is safe. So we stay in our heads.
In this video, I walk through a simple, powerful practice for learning how to actually feel your emotions — not intellectualize them.
Here's what it looks like:
1. Name the emotion. Not the story around it — the emotion itself. Sadness. Anger. Fear. Disappointment. Say it out loud: "That situation brought up in me a feeling of ___."
2. Locate it in your body. Close your eyes, take a breath, and notice where the energy of that emotion lives. Your chest. Your gut. Your lower belly. Your throat. It's somewhere.
3. Put your hand there. And breathe. No commentary. No judgment. No fixing. No story. Just feel it. That's it.
This is one of the most overlooked skills in personal growth — and it's the doorway to something most people are chasing without knowing it: radical presence. You cannot be fully present with other people until you learn to be fully present with yourself. And feeling your emotions is how that begins.
The word emotion starts with E — and E equals energy. An emotion is simply energy in motion. Energy that's trying to move through your body. When you learn to feel it instead of think it, you let it move. And when it moves, you come home to yourself.
