Rocky Mountains Planned Parenthood and reproductive justice coalitions partners across the state, like the Human Rights Campaign PAC and NARAL stood up against the reckless attacks on reproductive freedom by the GQP and the liars they put in stolen seats on the Supreme Court after the recent leak of a draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and take away women's body autonomy and sovereignty.
On Monday, April 4, 2002, our Governor Polis signed into law the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which guarantees access to reproductive care before and after pregnancy and bans local governments from imposing their own restrictions.
It also declares that fertilized eggs, embryos and fetuses have no independent rights.
He said: “Colorado has been, is and will be a pro-choice state”... calling increasing abortion restrictions elsewhere “an enormous government overreach, an enormous government infringement” of individual rights. “No matter what the Supreme Court does in the future, people in Colorado will be able to choose when and if they have children.”
Colorado was the first state to decriminalize abortion in most cases in 1967, and it allows access to abortion but had nothing in state law guaranteeing it.
The 98-page draft opinion that leaked was penned by inJustice Samuel Alito, one of 6 conservatives on a court, 3 in stolen seats who lied to congress about Roe being settled legal precedent.
Alito’s draft would toss out the precedent set by the 1973 case Roe v. Wade and reaffirmed in 1992 by Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Those pivotal rulings protect the right to get an abortion before the point of fetal viability and require that regulations limiting abortion access do not pose an “undue burden.”
Alito wrote in the draft: “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled.”
Fuck him.
