Gates Cambridge scholar Ayala Panievsky discusses the implications of hate campaigns on newsrooms.
“…there is a big hate campaign, it affects journalists’ lives, and it affects our information. …we know that these campaigns target particularly women, and people of color, and other religious and ethnic minorities. …We know that one of the strategies that journalists adapt against these brutal attacks is just leaving the profession. We see people either leaving social media or leaving the profession altogether. So, the effort of many years…of trying to diversify the newsroom…now you see these people slowly leaving the newsroom, getting inequality even worse than it was. …We need to…make sure that journalists are stronger and more capable of coping with these orchestrated attacks.”
