18 Watt Superlite TMB testing # 4
This amp is a knock-off of the Marshall 18 Watt amp. The circuit in this one is commonly referred to as the 18 Watt Superlite TMB. There's nothing "lite" about it .. it will blow you out of the house! Find the schematic and more at 18watt.com.
This amp was built to order for a good friend. The chassis is a Hammond steel 16x8 with black powder coat finish. The transformers are from musicalpowersupplies.com .. highly recommended BTW. This is the 4th of 4 videos showing the evaluation phase .. right after construction was completed.
At this point in out testing we've replaced the Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the first position (preamp stage) with a US made mil-spec 7025. Buzz is on the ax .. and he's starting to get excited about this amp. In the later half of the vid we've moved the 7025 to the PI position and put in a US made 12AX7 in the preamp slot. Listen closely for Buzz's comments.
Note: I've used the Sovtek LPS with great success in Princeton and Champ clones; it's very resistant to hum .. but, it rings like a bell in this amp.
