EP 205 Smokey Lonesome on The Chevy Music Showcase
I'm not going to tell you what kind of music they play. You watch the episode and you'll understand that doing so is part of the problem. I will however tell you that whatever the genre, Smokey Lonesome is a party waiting to happen. I don't care what label you put on yourself, it's damned difficult to not become an instant fan when these cats fire it up. Front man Curtis Lance has just the right combo of rich, raw vocals with country-ish flare and the band, well they just effing rock it. Seriously folks. Go see a show and you'll know what I mean. Across the stage everyone of them brings some A game musicianship that will just get you lost for the entire set.
But all this fun sits at the end of a long bumpy path. They've paid some dues and been around the block a few times for sure. In this episode, the band hangs out in The Duck Room at Blueberry Hill with another genre-shy artist Mo E and they talk about the constrictive nature of labels on music and and the labels (record labels, that is) who rely on them to make the industry just a little bit smaller. In the end though, independence wins the day.
