JEX #11 - Many As The Stars
A composition I wrote about fathers and how our decisions shape our children. Inspired by the "Musical Basics" channel here on YouTube.
Project: Family Matters, 2010
Goals: Write a lullaby, replace the orchestra with one piano, give it a touch off jazz.
Style: Classical with a hint of Ramsey Lewis jazz piano
Lessons Learned:
1) master the technical before attempting to play the emotions you feel, this took weeks but should translate to other projects and help it take less time
2) even electronic instruments such as the Roland patch I used for this piece respond to the touch in ways that can make or break the mood (by the way, I did tweak the patch a bit and EQ'd it to get the sound I wanted)
3) playing in minor keys for extended periods can make momentary shifts to major keys sound totally sweet :)
