I started by recording random videos of Jupiter between about 12:15am and 2:30 am. Each video was between 3 minutes and 5 minutes, which helped keep Jupiter roughly centered in the video, and also prevented blurring since Jupiter rotates so quickly.
A day on Jupiter lasts 9 hours and 55 minutes. This means it rotates at around 45,583km/h (28, 323.9 mph). The Earth in contrast spins at around 1,609km/h(1,000mph).
After downloading the videos from the camera, I first ran them through PIPP (Planetary Imaging Preprocessor). This helps stabilize the videos so that Jupiter is always in the center. This makes stacking each frame in the next software easier.
Next, the stabilized videos are run through Auto Stakkert. This software stacks a certain amount of frames, based on the settings chosen, to stack. The process of stacking combines multiple frames from a video into a single image. This image has greater detail than a single image would have.
The last step is running the resulting images (one at a time in this case) through Registax. This software is used to bring out the details hidden in the stacked image(s) using wavelets and noise reduction.
This part is optional, but since I had several images over a period of time I thought I'd make a video showing the rotation of Jupiter.
I used the video editor portion of Blender, a 3d animation program, to create a short video showing the rotation, and the orbit of two of it's moons, Europa and Io

In the near future, I plan on doing something similar with Saturn and Mars. I may try some other software to capture more equally spaced video for a smoother and longer video to capture the movement of Jupiter and it's moons.
