Gone with the Wind, despite being passed over 70 years after its release in theaters, is perhaps the most romantic and troubled history of cinema and continues to be a landmark of Hollywood's golden years.
Based on the best-selling novel by Margaret Mitchell, the triumph of this film is primarily attributed to the ability of the producer David O. Selznick, who spent two and half years of his life in tranfers on the screen.
Certainly, the cast and the great love story gave the final push and they made of this movie a masterpiece.
Set during the Civil War American late nineteenth century, tells the story between the charming adventurer Rhett Butler, played by Clark Gable and the rebel Scarlett O'Hara, played by Vivien Leigh.
But the heart of the beautiful Scarlett beats for the reassuring Ashley Wilkes, played by Leslie Howard, who is emotionally committed to Melanie Hamilton, (Scarlett's cousin), played by Olivia de Havilland.
11 Nominations and 8 won Academy Awards: Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Color, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Picture, Best Writing, Screenplay.
Hattie McDaniel (Best Actress in a Supporting Role) was the first black actress to win an Oscar, tearing it to Olivia de Havilland, who was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
The film did not have a single director. Although the direction is attributed to Victor Fleming, Gone With the Wind was also directed by George Cukor and Sam Wood.
