For #Week49 of my #52Songs52Weeks songwriting challenge, my assignment was to write about overcoming obstacles. And this song, #NoPastWeCantGetPast, is about there not being any obstacles in someone’s past that you can’t get past, if you love each other. I started this song over a year with the amazingly talented Mamie Lew Gardiner. We wrote the bulk of it in less than 2 hours and it was one of the smoothest co-writes I’ve ever had. Her husband, Ethan, also helped us with a guitar part that we were stuck on. Ethan & Mamie are the husband and wife duo that make up the Nashville band, “A Rake & The Rosebud.” Go check them out! It was a great collaborative effort and we got the start of a fun poppy folkish song… Side Note: Fun Poppy Folk should be its own genre. Anyway, we had been talking about getting back together to put some finishing touches on it since then. So I brainstormed some ideas, with the intention of us getting together this week. Well evidently Mamie didn’t enjoy writing with me as much as I enjoyed writing with her, because she went and got pneumonia, just to get out of the write this week. Talk about sending a clear message! On a serious note, this means that we will come together to look at this again. So, I am open to hearing all feedback. Let me know if you like what you hear.
