Ricoh R 360 livestream camera development kit. Hands-on and mobile testing.
The Ricoh R development kit is a 360-degree livestreaming camera. It's basically a re-engineered Theta S with USB power, USB control and pre-stiched equirectangular HDMI output at 1920x960. I took some time to test it mobile over LTE using a LiveShell X streaming module. Attached to a monopod we took a walk around one of the halls at Mobile World congress while streaming to YouTube. Having tried to do this before (see • Video ) I was impressed at how stable and simple the setup was. No PC required in the chain!
This is an impressive and leading edge low cost mobile solution that I'm sure we'll see in a 4K version soon.
Note that there's no mic input on the Ricoh R but you can inject audio via the LiveShell X unit.
