Bumblebee at Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve
How can you not love the humble bumblebee, they work tirelessly to collect nectar and can fly despite their weird design (aerodynamics wise).
I think we got a queen bumblebee in the video filmed at Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve in Skegness August 2016.
She has three bands: orange, orange and an orange/white band. I think that makes her a bombus terrestris, the buff-tailed bumblebee or large earth bumblebee. Really common in Europe.
She's gorgeous and was nice enough to fly right in front of my phone for some nice close ups.
The name of the lovely lilac/purple flowered plant the bumblebee is collecting nectar from in the video is the Sea Lavender (Genus: Limonium) that grows on salt marsh areas (the area is called The Saltmarsh, Gibraltar Point).
