Trauma is popular at the moment and you want to help. Awesome, but don’t think you can go to a stand alone workshop, do an exercise once, have it work for you and your personal experience and then go and heal others.
It’s irresponsible. It’s dangerous. It’s disrespectful to the integrity of the work and the training and teachings of others (especially if you are passing it off as your own work). @alexipanos spoke about this in a recent podcast episode and it made me think instead of seeing this happen and doing nothing, I’ll call it out.
As helpers and healers our main goal should be to create safety. To ensure that if we open that Pandora’s box for someone then we know how to help them put the lid back on. Trauma work is not a game. We are all still learning. Be a humble student not another guru. Everyone needs mentoring, support and feedback. It’s how we keep clients safe.
