SEO Manager - Create Friendly URL
As an EPiServer editor I want to create a simple address, "Friendly URL", for a page.
Welcome to this video about SEO Manager for EPiServer.
I'm going to show you how SEO Manager handles simple addresses.
A simple address is a short URL to a page. When visitors request this short URL we want the visitor to reach the right page without being redirected to the master URL. For Search Engine Optimization in this kind of case we want the page to tell search engines that "This is an existing page but this is not the master URL so don't put the PageRank here. Add the PageRank to the master URL." This is done by using the canonical tag in the HTML, something that SEO Manager does for you automatically.
In this example we have a page with the URL "/company". So, let's go into edit mode and add a simple address for this page.
I will add the simple address "/mycompany" and then click "Save and publish". SEO Manager will now create a simple address for the page.
In the URL view we can see that the simple address has been created. Note that with SEO Manager you can create multiple simple addresses to a page.
We will now go back to the site and request the new simple address to see that it's working.
I will change the URL to /mycompany and hit Enter. As you can see the visitor will still reach the company page, even though the URL is now my new simple address.
I will now show you the canonical tag that tells search engines to still put the PageRank on the Master URL.
The marked html code is the canonical tag that tells the search engines that the master URL is "/company" and that that is where we want the PageRank, instead of splitting it between "/company" and "/mycompany".
