Marius N. Stan, MD, an Endocrinologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, reviews his article appearing in the November 2024 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, where he describes the first reported series of T1 papillary thyroid carcinoma treated with radiofrequency ablation in the United States. Early post-ablation imaging shows the ablated region larger than the target lesions, followed by serial decrease in size. Therefore, radiofrequency ablation at centers with such expertise appears safe and effective to treat small papillary thyroid carcinoma. Dr. Stan notes further studies are needed to evaluate its long-term efficacy and the risk of recurrence. Available at: https://mayocl.in/4eoQJv3
