How to Create a Postage Stamp in Photoshop

1. Open your photo
Select menu File-Open to open your photo. Click the photo then click the Open button. After the photo is open, by default a Background layer will be created with the key image. So that we can edit it, double click the Background layer while holding down the Alt key.
2. Increase Canvas Size
Select the menu Images-Canvas Size. Increase the canvas size by filling in the column width: 10 percent and the column height 10 percent. Click the OK button.
3. Add Stroke
To create a photo border, add a stroke by selecting the menu Layer- Layer Style- Stroke. Fill in size 2 px and position Outside.
4. Create a New Layer for the Background
While holding down the Ctrl key, click the Create New Layer icon located at the bottom of the panel. Press the letter D to reset the foreground/background color to default. Then press Ctrl+Backspace to fill it with a white background color. Then add a stroke by selecting the menu Layer- Layer Style- Stroke. Fill in size 2 px and position Outside.
5. Click Erase Tool
We're going to remove the edge of the background that we just created to give it a torn stamp effect. Click the Erase Tool icon. Then select the Window menu-Brush. I will fill in Size:40 and Spacing 169%. You can set the size according to the size of your photo.
6. Create a Stamp Effect
Click Layer 1 to make sure it's active. Use the Eraser Tool by clicking on it at the far left of the canvas. Next while holding down the Shift key, click the right end of the canvas. Automatically the top of the canvas will be erased with a row of circles of the same size.
7. Increase the canvas size by 5%
Increase the canvas size again. Choose Image-Canvas Size. Fill in the Width and Height columns of 5 percent each.
8. Add Text
Click the Horizontal Type Tool. In the Options bar, please select the font type, font size and font color. Then click the image to start writing your text. Use Free Transform to adjust the size of the text and its position on the image. You can also use the Flip Horizontal, Vertical or Rotate options on your text by selecting the Edit-Transform menu. Make sure the layer for the text is at the top so it's visible.
9. Add Postmark
Prepare your postmark photo then select File-Place, select your postmark file then click the Place button. Use Free Transform to adjust the postmark size and position on the postage. Set the opacity of the layer if the postmark ink is too thick. Swipe layer cap pos to the top position for visibility.
