Movies will always be here. Hollywood is not a fad. It will not disappear. That is as long as the family structure is intact. Huh? Matter of fact the studios, with their franchise "Tent-Pole" films, used to be called their "Locomotive" Films, are getting larger and larger and larger.
Permit me to explain Hollywood, with respect to families. Movies (aka: going to the mall) is, and always will be, the cheapest form of entertainment when compared to (A) Sporting Events, (B) Live Theater and (C) Concerts.
Thus, as long as there is "The Family"....Come weekends, Kids, will always have to get the hell out of the house, away from their parents, and the cheapest form of escapism is MOVIES. So, as you've seen over the decade movies are being geared more-and-more towards kids.
However, By-the-by, self-centered obnoxious kids (aren't they all; I certainly was when I was 10-18), us PARENTS also have to get the hell away from you... And, the cheapest form of escapism is the Movie Theater. So there will also be adult themed movies..but normally not made by Hollywood, but financed and made by a Billionaire, and distributed by Hollywood.
So movies are always going to be here. I cannot tell you what the physical theater will physically look like but it will be there... for both Kids and separately, Parents, got to get the hell away from their respective family members.... I'm sure you had such a wonderful time during Thanksgiving and couldn't wait to say "Goodby", get in your car, go home and start counting another 364 days until you see them...
Anyway, teaching point. I must make you think forward, think ahead, think outside-of-the-box.
The kids of today are not used to paying for movies and there attention spans are getting shorter-and-shorter. Plus, television and cable has become quite expensive to watch with those B*llshit $89 Fios, Time-Warner, U-Verse packages that end up costing $150-$220/month.
Plus, kids watch movies with their thumbs on those little smartphones and tablets...
Here's what I'm saying there is a new universe of programming called "OTT", or "Over-The-Top" -- Broadband delivery of audio and video. Some, I believe label it as "IPTV" (Internet Protocol Television).
Worldwide revenues for Fixed Broadband OTT, which excludes smartphones & tablets, was $3.79 Billion in 2010 is projected, at low, to be $27.7 Billion, a 700% increase, within 5 years, by 2017.
A report from UK based Digital TV Research sated that last year 182 million households (SA has 110 million households), around-the-world, watched online television (programming brought to them via broadband...internet) and video, and within 4-5 years this will increase to 480 million households in 40 nations.
Thus, let's start thinking about creating your own channels, your own networks of programming or movies that will come to households around-the-world via the internet.
