Filmmaker Organizing...DO IT! Preparing the Preparation or Scheduling the Schedule and Location Management....Yes, you heard me Prepping-the-Prep. There is no such thing as enough preparation and planning for your first or any ensuing film productions...now let's cover (10) Preparing the Pre-Production and (11) Locations Prep...
(10) PREPARE PRE-PRODUCTION
a. Casting Sessions (when & where)
b. Production Meetings (schedule regularly)
c. Location Scouting (finalize)
d. Rehearsals (where & when, after casting)
e. Pre-Rigging (after scouting, Grip, Gaffer & DP meet with PM)
f. Production Board Finalize
g. Shooting Schedule discussed
h. Shot List finalized
(11) LOCATIONS
a. Location Manager (hire one, if affordable...probably not)
b. Select Location Service (if affordable...probably not)
c. Complete Location Agreements
d. Secure Insurance Certificates (will be needed, if not your own property)
e. Obtain Permits (unless planning on Guerilla Filmmaking Style)
f. Police & Fired Departments (if Permits obtained, will likely need)
g. Set up Security (Be Careful...equipment does get stolen)
h. Plan for Parking (location rope-offs)
i. Releases from neighbors (or keep a bunch of $100 bills in your pocket)
j. Prepare maps for Cast & Crew to get to each locations (super important)
k. Heaters, Fans, Air Conditioners (one or all might be needed)
l. Set up portable office (Phone, Fax, E-mail)
l. Arrange for chairs for Extras & Atmosphere
m. Allocate areas for Extras & Atmosphere
n. Caterer & Lunch (who, where, when)
o. Parking areas for everyone (Cast, Producer & Director...then Crew...then extras)
p. Honeywagons or Mobil Homes (if needed, order and where park)
q. Nearest Hospital, Doctor, Pharmacy (if needed)
r. Lunch (where tables and chairs and buffet)
s. Craftservice (who, where, budget & what)
t. Plus, Plus, Plus (Yes, planning & organization never stop)
