You heard about a new feature film with a $300 Million Budget; you saw "Avatar" and wondered how did Cameron spend $200 Million on it; you read about the average Studio Feature Film has a $24 Million Budget; you heard that so-and-so company has a new slate of 7-10 character driven Feature Films with budgets of $5-$7 Million and $7-10 Million.
Budgets. Budgets. Budgets.
Now, have you ever spent a moment to think..."Why are they telling me their budgets"? "Why does, it appears, everyone in the movie industry has verbal-diarrhea and proudly blabs blabs blabs about their budgets?
Have you ever thought about this?
Only the movie industry tells you the Budget.... Very, very interesting.
Now, I hope you are ready for an epiphany.
Do You Think Anyway in Hollywood EVER TOLD YOU THE TRUTH?
What their budget is to make a feature film actually "Is none of your Bloody Business." But after 50 years they have learned that you will always ask. "What's the Budget?", which, by-the-way is a very personal question. The truth is, if I'm making a feature film, what I am actually paying to make that feature film is (A) None of Your Business but (B) because you will so rudely ask I Will tell You a Number and I Guarantee You that I will inflate that number 200-300%.
Bottom-line is that what my budget is or your budget is, is again, none of anyone's bloody business. However, Hollywood is a marketing industry and they, the marketeers, believe that if they promote that this feature film has a budget that is "just under" $5-$7 Million it will have a better chance to get you to leave your house and go to a theater and give us $10 Bucks than if we also told you the budget is $764,372 dollars.
By-the-By; is $764,372 "JUST UNDER" $5-$7 Million?
Yes! So they feel they're not lying...Yes, I now it's a big stretch...but they feel they're not lying and "they'll still go to heaven".
