The Parable of the Vigilant Servants is also known as the Parable of the Faithful Servant or the Parable of the Door Keeper and sometimes the Parable of the Watchful Slaves.
Jesus warns the people listening to "be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks." (Lk 12:36).
Put in another way, he says to be like the slaves who the master finds alert and ready for his return.
But the ending of this anecdotal parable is the most shocking. If the master finds the slaves ready and alert, the master will ask them to sit at the table and HE will serve THEM.
Why is Jesus telling us this? Because we must be ready for we do not know when the Son of Man will return.
Jesus Christ will indeed come back but we don't know when.
Be ready! Be alert!
How can we be ready for Jesus's return?
1) Pray. Stay close to God and strengthen your relationship with him now.
2) Examine your day. If today was the last day of your life, would you be happy with how you lived?
3) Serve God until he serves you. Serve God now and then be prepared for him to serve you in heaven because of his overwhelming love for you.
