The life of Muslims in Kashmir can be said to be calm and peaceful, although there are still certain groups who do not like to see the development of Islam in India, especially in Kashmir.

Islam is the majority religion practiced in Kashmir, with 97.16% of the region's population identifying as Muslim in 2014. The religion came to the region with the arrival of Mir Sayed Ali Shah Hamdani, a Muslim Sufi preacher from Central Asia and Persia, started in the early 14th century. The majority of Kashmiri Muslims are Sunni Muslims. They refer to themselves as "Koshur" in their native language. Non-Kashmiri Muslims in Kashmir include semi-nomadic cattle herders and pastoralists, who belong to the Gurjar and Bakarwal communities
