Generating a trapezoidal signal in an embedded system is best achieved using a DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) driven by software, or by employing advanced PWM modules with specialized timers. A common approach is using a microcontroller to generate a look-up table or programmatic ramp-up, hold, ramp-down, and hold values to produce the desired trapezoid.

Steps to Generate a Trapezoidal Wave
Define Waveform Points: Create an array of values (e.g., for a 12-bit DAC, 0 to 4095).
Rise: Increment values from 0 to max.
Top: Hold maximum value.
Fall: Decrement values from max to 0.
Bottom: Hold zero value.
Configure DAC & Timer: Configure the DAC to output voltage and set a timer to trigger updates for every element in the array.
Output Cycle: The array is looped, typically in circular mode (DMA), to generate a continuous wave..
