Vancouver Island Winter Camping in an RV
Hello everyone! We spent the winter on Vancouver island living in our travel trailer and wanted to share our experience. We took the ferry over from Vancouver and headed to our winter home of campbell river. It was our first time winter camping in our travel trailer and we were a little nervous of how it would go. We settled on Vancouver island as our destination because of the mild weather year round. It’s also one of the only places in Canada that rains instead of snows, and boy does it rain a lot. We explored many of the beautiful areas around us on the island. We explored the nearby area of gold river, going to stunning inlets and a series of snow filled caves. Took a small ferry to the neighbouring island, Quadra island. It’s a small but stunning island with many beautiful beaches, gorgeous hikes through rainforest, and endless views of the ocean. We then decided it was time to remove our diy truck camper from our truck. It was sad to remove it, but it helped get rid of some of the unnecessary weight in the back of our truck. Spending winter camping on Vancouver island was a very unique experience. We usually opt for freezing cold temperatures and blankets of snow, so swapping that for beaches, rainforest, and never ending rainfall was a huge adjustment. We had many days filled with wind and rain so intense we felt like we were sailing the ocean. Our Christmas looked a little different this year, we had very little snow and lots of rain. We decided to take the dogs to a seldom used dog park to run around and enjoy the slush. We definitely missed the northern winters we were used to, and weren’t very big fans of the constant cloudy gloominess of Canada’s coast. It was an unforgettable experience filled with many amazing memories. However, we both felt it wasn’t for us. We much prefer Canada’s frigid but sunny north to the mild but dreary coast. We were happy to load the ferry back to the mainland of Canada to start our summer in Canada’s Rocky Mountains! Thanks for watching!
