Finding Mold In Our Truck Camper
While doing our weekly clean out of our truck camper we discovered a big problem, mold. After some searching we discovered that we had mold growing in two different places. We have a secret little cubby hole under our bed that hadn't been opened in months, when we finally opened it we found some mold growing inside. Then after some searching around we found that the carpeting along the rail of the truck canopy was also getting moldy. Gross! To fix the problem we used bleach, sanded down the wood, used vinegar then sealed the wood with some paint. We then sprayed the entire carpet with vinegar and let that sit for a bit before rinsing it out then using an upholstery cleaner to wash the carpet thoroughly. That seemed to have fixed the problem and it's also a lot cleaner now. We have some plans for a more long term fix in the future and also some more upgrades for the summer that will make life living in the back of our truck much more enjoyable! We plan to install a roof fan as soon as the weather warms up enough, that will help tremendously with getting some airflow in the camper and helping to prevent mold in the future. After dealing with the mold issue we bought some new windshield wipers for the truck. The last ones lasted 3 years which is impressive but we couldn’t remember the brand! We ended up buying some Bosch so hopefully they last a long time too. It has been a very strange February so far, it has been unusually warm and a pretty low snow year. After a couple days of hard rain I (Daniel) went to the Canyon Creek Trails to do some snowshoeing on a gorgeous sunny day after all the rain we had. They are maintained by volunteers and are completely free. You can snowshoe, cross country and backcountry ski here. It also has a very nice cabin that is left open to warm up in or have a picnic in. After that I decided we needed a bit more security in the cap so I drilled a hole for our bungee cord to go through to securely lock our cap when we are inside. It seems like winter might be over soon and we sure hope so as it will be one of the shortest winters we have ever seen in a long time. Thanks for watching and have a great day!
