When One Engine Saved Two Planes
The incredible bravery of an episode in history known as Pardo's push. During the Vietnam War, U.S. pilot Robert 'Bob' Pardo demonstrated exceptional heroism when his wingman's F-4 Phantom was hit by anti-aircraft fire over North Vietnam in March 1967. Pardo maneuvered his own damaged F-4 behind the crippled plane, using his windscreen to push against its tail hook. With this risky maneuver, called "Pardo's Push," he helped the distressed aircraft reach Laos, where the crew safely ejected. Despite initial reprimand due to losing two aircraft, Pardo was eventually recognized and awarded the Silver Star for his bravery in 1989.
