Hey there, it’s Matt! Today, I’m going to show you how to change your Gmail theme and background.
So, I’m in my trusty Gmail right now. I’ve blanked out my emails for privacy, but you can see I’m using the standard default theme.
If you want to jazz things up a bit, it’s super easy to change your theme and background. First, head to the top right corner where you’ll see the gear icon—that’s the universal symbol for settings.
Click on that, and then select “See all settings.”
Now, you’ll see a bunch of tabs at the top. We want to go to the third tab from the end, which is “Themes.” Once you click on that, you’ll notice a little box that says “Set theme.” It looks pretty bare, but that’s where the magic happens!
Click on “Set theme,” and just like that, you’ll see a bunch of theme options pop up. There are all sorts of cool backgrounds to choose from—like a chessboard, some stunning landscapes, and even cityscapes like San Francisco.
If you want more options, just click on “More images,” and you’ll find a ton of photos. I think they pull these from stock sites like Unsplash.
At the bottom, you’ll see the default theme highlighted. You can also choose from some base colors like lavender, blue, or even a mustard yellow.
If you want something a bit more fun, there are cartoonish themes too. Let’s say I want to go with this cute monkey crawling out of a lagoon.
I’ll click on that, then hit “Insert” at the bottom. Just like that, the monkey background appears!
It might look a bit grayed out right now since I’m still in the menu, but it’s there. Now, just click “Save,” and voila!
The monkey is my new background. If that’s not your style, no worries.
You can go back into settings, click on themes again, and choose a base color or another image. I could totally see myself sticking with something simple like this dusk color.
But honestly, I’m a bit of a traditionalist, so I’ll probably switch back to the default after this video. So, that’s it!
To change your Gmail theme, just click the gear icon, go to settings, find themes, and pick whatever you like. I’ll go ahead and change mine back to the classic look now.
