In this video, I’ll show you how to set up a monitor in Uptime Robot to keep track of your website’s uptime.
I cover everything from adding your site’s URL and choosing notification types to setting monitoring intervals. This tutorial will show you how to receive email alerts every 5 minutes with the free plan (or every 30 seconds on the Premium plan) if your site goes offline.

Hi, this is Matt, and this is a video on how to add a monitor in Uptime Robot. I am here on the main dashboard section of Uptime Robot. If you’re not familiar, it’s at dashboard.uptimerobot.com/monitors, and I’ll put that in the description below this video, of course.
To add a new monitor, you’ll see this big blue button in the top right that says New Monitor, so we’re going to click on that. Now we get to add the URL to monitor. For the purposes of this video, I’ll enter mattbusiness.com—one of my sites that needs monitoring.
You’ve got a few options here. If you’re on the free plan, you just have the email notifications option. But if you’re on the paid plan, you can also have SMS, voice call, and mobile push notifications. I’m just going to leave email as the notification option here.
Then, down at the bottom, you’ll see monitor intervals. This part is super important. You can go below one minute—or actually, I should say one minute or below—if you have the Premium plan. The Premium plan starts at $7 per month, as it says here. I’m just using the free version, which I think is perfectly good for this kind of thing, so I’ll set it to 5 minutes. This means the monitor will check my site every 5 minutes. If you’re on the paid plan, you can choose 30 seconds or 1 minute as intervals.
For most people, 5 minutes should be perfectly fine to start with. Essentially, what this does is it has Uptime Robot check if your site is online within that 5-minute period. If it’s not, it’ll send you an email notification, or an SMS, voice call, or mobile push notification if you’re on the paid plan.
Now that we’ve set those basic settings, we can go ahead and click Create Monitor at the bottom. In just a second, that monitor will now be created. Here’s the creation page, where we can test the notification if we want to. And if we click this button for Monitoring, we can go back to the main dashboard.
On the dashboard, we can see all our monitors here, and each one will show its status over the last 24 hours. All of these should say 100% if everything’s working properly. If there’s any issue, you’ll get an email, and you’ll also see alerts here if there’s a problem with any of the sites you’re monitoring.
