Pink Poison | Peelable Auto Paint
From boring grey to bright pink!
After a quick wash and dry we pulled the car in to mask up. The customer had just bought this car and wanted to maintain the factory finish while customizing it to fit her personality. We masked up the vehicle with solvent resistant materials making sure to tape a clean line around the jambs and removing anything that might get in the way.
For our base coat we are using a light grey. This will let brighter colors like red and pink pop a little bit more. After a couple gallons of base we moved on to the red color. If going with a pink base the pearl isn't as vibrant as so red it is for this project.
The pearl that we are using is called 'Pink Poison' and has a unique pink/blue ghost effect. The blue is very soft. Not too over powering but a nice added touch.
This pearl is pretty easy to spray but we always use full passes to avoid any stripes/blotching from pearl becoming concentrated in one area due to improper spraying technique. Once we get a full coat down you can start to see the red color transforming into a vibrant pink. After we are happy with the pearl coverage, we add a little bit of silver glitter to help it sparkle in the sun. Seeing the customers steering wheel color and key fob, adding some sparkle to the color wouldn't hurt.
After the base and color have dried for about an hour or two we put down two coats of gloss and let it dry overnight. The next day, when the paint has hardened, we sand it down with 600/800 (wet) grit paper to remove any imperfections then cleaned really well sprayed one last smooth coat of gloss. Even ...wet.... passes.
7+ hours later - Ready to unmask. Taking a good look over prior to see if we need to trim anything. Anything that doesn't have a body gap and the tape has bonded. ✂️✂️✂️ Unmasking being the most enjoyable but toughest part of the project yet still enjoyable when done right and things go smoothly.
The customer called her Uber and drove right past us. Didn't even see it was her car parked out front. She loved it! The added glitter was a hit. Loved the project and loved the customers reaction even more.
