Background:
This was the first 'full' composition I made. The feeling of cancelled plans, disappointment, and the pandemic all came together over the course of an afternoon into this short piece.
In terms of underlying theory, I knew I wanted it to be a lilting, almost anticipatory rhythm so I went with 19/8 as the time signature but harmonically I just sort of threw things together. For instance, I hated complex key signatures so I chose what I thought was the hardest with the most sharps. Of course, later I found out piano players find keys that use all of the black notes relatively easier to play so I suppose that worked out.
Like most of the songs from this time in my music making journey, it's very poorly mixed and not mastered really at all so you might have to crank the volume a bit unless YouTube's compression is feeling particularly generous on upload.
