Title: Godspeed
Artist: The Contortionist
Background:
My first cover! The original is from The Contortionist's album Clairvoyant and it's a track that really means a lot to me. I knew it would be fun to adapt all the usual prog metal goodness, like metric modulation, time changes, etc. but I really wanted to capture the introspective quieter sections of the song too. Luckily, an orchestra has a wide palette of colors to choose from and reimagining each section in a new way was extremely fun. For instance, the cor anglais for the first verse, the celeste on the second, etc. I had to go through a few different instruments trying to figure out which could best voice the guitar solo in the middle of the track. I almost landed on cello for it but the viola narrowly won out in the end, which is great because that instrument so rarely gets virtuosic solo sections like that. Instruments are all Cinematic Studio series and Cineperc for percussion, using an adapted version of Rico Derks' wonderful Project Colossal template.
