David Handler - Lullaby (Official Music Video)
Recontextualizing one of the oldest musical archetypes as a dialogue between acoustic and electric sound, Handler writes this children’s lullaby in order to process it heavily, mining the darker regions of what unsettles us. He states: “my intention was not to present by itself a traditionally hypnotic, soothing music designed for sleep, but to include with it the restless throws, vehement intrusions, and digital purr of the sleeper.”
To start, the lullaby is processed beyond recognition. Midway through the piece that veil is lifted, a window is opened, and the lilting tune of the lullaby is revealed–unadorned, in the piano where it was all along, though some trace artifacts of the commotion remain.
