David Handler - Ever After (Official Music Video)
The composition Ever After epitomizes Handler's signature use of familiar, often tonal relics within a narrative structure and polytonal language to explore the notion of incongruity and destruction. A chorale lays a bed of sound over which a meandering celeste crosses paths with a harp. The two struggle to find their way together. After a distant recollection of melody subsides, the two are left to find their fractured music together. Eventually they fall off, leaving only the chorale to soothe what may have been between the two, while the plaintive horn struggles to manage its impossibly high register.
