Retro Nick celebrates the release of the Cho Aniki collection on Steam by traveling BACK to Planet Builder to review Cho Aniki: Bakuretsu Ranto-hen for the Super Famicom.

This game marks Masaya’s final entry in the legendary, bizarre, protein-powered Cho Aniki series — but instead of another shoot-’em-up, they went full fighting game. Eight-way aerial movement, sweaty power-charging dances, surreal backgrounds, and more baby oil than an 80s bodybuilding convention.

Does Bakuretsu Ranto-hen have what it takes to be a hidden gem on the SNES? Well, it's an odd entry for the Super Nintendo library-for sure, and the gameplay is much slower than I'd like, but it is a pioneer in fighting game mechanics, nonetheless.

In this review, I break down:

🏋️ The story and presentation
🎨 The sprites, backgrounds, and music
💥 The aerial combat system
⚡ The power meter, daze mechanic, and Men’s Beam
⛔ Why matches tend to drag
🤼 Whether this is bakage or kusoge
💪 And where Bakuretsu Ranto-hen stands in the Cho Aniki lineage

If you’ve ever been curious about the other Cho Aniki games, or you just love weird retro fighters, this video has you covered.
