Relaxing Pinball Sounds to Vibe to: Tales of the Arabian Nights
This morning I decided to start my day with a little pinball action on my Tales of the Arabian Nights pinball machine. Produced by Williams in 1996, TOTAN features 7 different game modes that you must conquer to earn 7 jewels for your scimitar, the only weapon that can defeat the evil genie, Saleem Bagazi, who sits as a big blue bash toy on the playfield and who will capture your ball with a powerful electromagnet as you start quests or go into multiball. Saleem has kidnapped the beautiful princess Shahrazad and trapped her in a bottle. The only way to vanquish him and rescue the princess, is to collect the seven magical jewels to embed in your scimitar to unlock the wizard mode, where you must land shots to defeat Saleem's army of evil skeletons before facing off with the genie himself in an unlimited multiball mode.
The game features unique wish mechanics where you rub the lamp by spinning it. 15 spins will grant you a wish from YOUR genie, where you can choose a context-sensitive bonus, or collect one of the 7 jewels. Each time you hit 15 spins the game saves them as a multiplier bonus for the end of each ball, with each spin being worth 10,000 points. It doesn't seem like a lot, but if you have 45 spins and a 12x multiplier, your bonus shoots up to 5,400,000 points! I've personally scored 20,000,000 points on a bonus, however that is NOT recorded here XD.
Tales of the Arabian Nights also boasts one of the most satisfying ramp shots in history, that you can use to complete modes, enable the Fireball hurry up bonus, and access the jets and the hidden shot behind the genie to advance Harem Multiball, a 2-ball multiball mode where every shot is a jackpot.
With 7 unique game modes, hidden bonuses, 2 multiball modes and an unlimited multiball wizard mode, Tales of the Arabian Nights has a little bit of everything for everyone.
Gameplay was captured in vertical format so you can see the entire playfield, the DMD and part of the marquis. There are two plays featured here. The second one is where I become GRAND CHAMPION, and you can hear the knocker trip a few times.
