Winter in the Pocono Mountains offers some great winter events in February. With snow on the ground and ice forming on the lakes, this year is shaping up to be great for winter sports including skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating, winter camping and more. Check out a couple of the upcoming events in this episode.
Wally Ice Fest is the Poconos biggest event for Pond Hockey with 30-40 teams competing every year. Held on February 1st, 2025, the event promises lots of action and fun on the ice. Temperatures will be below freezing all of January, which should lead to thick ice by February. In 2024, temperatures were too warm to create safe ice but the event still went on with two days of bands, food & drink, and many vendors participating in the two day festival. Mark your calendars for February 1st and 2nd and for up to the minute conditions, visit WallyIceFest.com.
Another great event is the 39th Annual Rohman's Olympics held in Shohola featuring competitive events on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. Events like golf chipping, horseshoes, archery, plank skiing, bed racing, log sawing and much more. This event has been a local tradition since 1986 and is being organized by the second generation of Rohman's Tavern owners. You never know what to expect at Rohman's! For information go to RohmansPub.com.
If you are looking for something a little quieter and relaxing, book an eagle watching tour or pick-up a self guided map to watch for eagles. During this time of year, eagles migrate to the Upper Delaware River to fish in the river's open waters, particularly the confluence of the Lackawaxen River and the Delaware River. On New Year's Day every year, supports of the Tafton and Ledgedale Dive Teams take a frosty dip into Lake Wallenpaupack to help raise money for both organizations. Check out our coverage of this year's event in this episode and consider doing the plunge in 2026 on New Year's Day at 1st Klas Marina!
Hawley Winterfest, held in December, is always a great event to prepare for the Holidays. From the parade to Christmas caroling, it wouldn't be Christmas without it.
