Welcome back to YOU Can Beatbox. A little change of plans here as today we'll be learning the block click. I realized that this would've been helpful to learn before the drop it like its hot tutorial but for a more in depth look, here we go.
The block click is essentially the classic clicking sound with your mouth. Its rather simple in the sense that many people have been making it or similar sounds since they were young. The theory behind it is to build up pressure behind your tongue and then release it.
One way to practically see it is that its the same starting position as the inward K snare. The tip of your tongue starts out touching the top of your mouth and the sides block off airflow. Then instead of breathing in quickly like the inward snare, just release the pressure without breathing either in or out. So yes, you can do this sound without breathing. So do this [demo] not this [demo].
And from there thats really all we have for this sound but lets do those 2 practice beats.
1) B click click Pf click click x2
2) B click click B click click Pf click x2
And one quick addition to this before we end. The first is that by changing the positioning of your mouth, you can change the pitch of the sound as well. To make the clicks deeper, position your mouth like an O to make it more cavernous. To get a higher pitch, get your mouth as if you were going to say ahh.
And thats all for the block click. As always, dont forget to subscribe if you havent yet and like this video. I'm not sure if we're going to have a tutorial next week because i'll still be getting things together after the US Beatbox championship but stay tuned for crazy footage from the champs.
