Welcome back to YOU Can Beatbox. Just a quick note, I'm going to stick with Tuesdays for the video releases so definitely look forward to Tutorial Tuesdays. And now onto todays sound: The Pf Snare. The Pf snare is used widely in the world of vocal percussion and acapella because it sounds a lot like the actual snare drum.
The way you go about making this sound is by making a P sound by tightening your lips and then following it up quickly by an F sound, so it should sound a little like this. [Demo] Some people have had difficulty making this sound in the past so here are a few pointers on how to make sure you're doing this right:
1) Make sure you're putting air into this sound, especially the F at the end. If its too weak, it might just sound like a bass drum. Remember, it's tough to overdo it on sound when it comes to beatboxing.
2) Remember that the F sound is made when your top teeth are resting on your bottom lip and you push out air. Just clarifying.
3) PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Beatboxing is all about practice. I'll put out another video soon for some tips on how to practice. For 99% of us, we cant expect to get a sound or a beat on the first try.
Moving on, you can add some air at the end to add duration to the sound like this [Demo] or make it really short to keep it nice and punchy[Demo]. There are plenty of variations so be sure to play around with the sound to get a consistency that you like.
