This is YOU Can Beatbox and today we're gonna be learning throat bass. Its the deep sounding bass that can add a lot of musicality to your beatboxing and it's surprisingly simple to learn and sounds a little bit like this. [Demo].
[Coughing storm]. No, I'm not sick and no I didnt forget to edit that out of the video. Coughing is the beginning of learning throat bass. How so? you may ask...Well coughing is defined by dictonary.com as "expelling air from the lungs suddenly and noisily" and we're just trying to condense the coughing sound. So if a normal sounds like this, the throat bass is made by trying to put as much pressure on your vocal chords to get a deeper, harder, throatier sound. So practice making the sound like [ehem demo] and extend the note. Thats the theory of making the throat bass.
A huge note about making this sound. Youre throat will probably get sore trying to learn this sound, but that is expected. Think about it: the way you're developing this sound is by putting a lot of pressure and stress on your vocal chords. Think about the last time you got sick and were coughing a lot. I presume it was not so fun. So when practicing this sound, make sure to drink a lot of water and get a hot beverage like tea with honey, hot chocolate or whatever you like. Consider this fair warning that being a beatboxer isn't a walk in the park.
And now time for practice beats!
1) B doh doh Pf doh doh x4
2) Bmmm B Psh B B B Psh x2
Like all beatboxing sounds, everyones face hardware is and will sound different. One great way to build up this sound and experiment is by listening to other beatboxers. So in the description down below I posted videos of Slizzer, Reepsone, Kinks to get a big variation for you guys to see.
